Erin laughed. "Yeah, that's a pretty common prank. The sad part is that I believed it when I was a freshman. Pathetic or what?" she asked. Looking back on it, Erin couldn't believe she had honestly trusted that jerk. Oh well, who cared now. She could make ten bucks easily, anyway. Acting in local plays could pay quite well.
Realizing she was still holding her shoe, she leaned over to put it on, whereas she tripped over and fell on her butt. What was with her today? Erin wasn't normally this klutzy. Maybe it was the high heels. She seriously wished she'd changed into her converse now. Both embarrassing situations could have been avoided by it.
Erin noticed that Katelyn had chapped hands. Poor thing! Having grown up the the very humid DC area, Erin didn't like the lack of humidity much either, but she had extra strength lotion to prevent her hands from getting chapped. Her lips were the problem. She always carried a tube of chapstick in her pocket, but her lips still chapped.

KK was alarmed to watch her new acquaintance fall over backwards, and automatically reached down to help Erin up. "Need a hand?" she asked.
(Sorry it's so extremely short. Sometimes there just isn't much to say.)

Erin smiled. "Thanks," she said. It looked like she and Katelyn wre becoming friends quickly. She tried to think of something to talk to her about, and decided on school. "So what electives are you taking?" she asked. Erin had, naturally, taken drama, chorus, and Spanish (the school had three electives instead of two, but required a fourign language.) She hadn't seen Katelyn in the choir, so she obviously wasn't doing that, but what was the taking?

KK smiled and resisted the sudden urge to quote a famous piece of literature. Instead, she answered Erin's question, "Mmm, I'm taking Latin, Journalism, and Drama. I haven't gotten cast in the play yet, although I really hope I can get in. I know which part I want... though it might be a little strange to hear..." She trailed off, thinking dreamily of the part she wanted. It was, in her opinion, the best part in the whole play, and nobody else had tried out for it yet that she knew of. But, to anyone who knew her, KK's dream part in Romeo and Juliet was a truly bizarre wish for her to have. To anyone who didn't know KK, it would be even stranger to hear, because KK's dream was so unlikely.

Erin was happy to hear Katelyn was trying out for the play. She had already auditioned and had gotten the part of Juliet's nurse. She was very happy to have gotten such a big part when she was only a sophomore. It was probably the largest female role besides Juliet. Erin was glad Mr. Ange didn't have her play Juliet, because she had never kissed a boy in her life, and it would be so weird kissing someone in a play when it had never happened in real life before.
Erin looked at her, "Uh, what part? I'm the nurse," she said. Erin wondered what part Katelyn would want that nobody had tried out for already. Erin couldn't possibly think of one. Erin had been willing to be any part except Romeo or Juliet. And preferably not Tybalt, Mercutio, or Benvolio, but if she had been cast as one of those two, she could have dealt with it. Still, what part did Katelyn want? This mystery baffled Erin.

KK sighed dreamily. "I want to be Benvolio," she replied. "Benvolio gets plenty of speeches, including a major part in the very first scene, and is important in the Everybody Duels Everybody Else scene." That was KK's goofy little nickname for Romeo and Juliet, Act III, Scene I. It was one of her favorite scenes from the play. "Although I'd be very happy to play the friar, or Tybalt. I could have fun as any one of those!" She laughed, thinking of how she would look in the part of Friar Lawrence. But she thought she would enjoy playing one of the parts where she would be allowed to whip a rapier around. "Does that sound strange to you?"

Erin giggled a little. "Benvolio, eh?" she asked, stealing a catche phrase from Canadians. "Only a little strange. Have you tried out already?" Erin asked. She would not want a part like that, she wasn't very good at acting like a guy. Also, she didn't like wearing a wig or hiding all her hair in a hat, so that part would be a definate no for her. But Katelyn should try out if she wanted the part so badly. It would be fun to work with her in the play, even if Benvolio didn't have any scenes with the nurse except the fight scene and the funeral. ((As I recall, I haven't read Romeo and Juliet in a while.))

KK grimaced briefly. "No, I haven't tried out yet. I plan to do so as soon as possible, though." She wanted that part. It would be wonderful, she thought, to be part of it, have any part at all, but Benvolio would be the most fun.
A breath of wind swept across the playground and caught at KK's hair. She laughed as her long light-brown locks streamed out to her side, whipping at the air beyond its reach and snapping back to brush once more against her face. The light of joy glowed in her eyes and seemed almost to paint the air around her with the rosy tint of pure laughter.

Erin nodded as KK spoke. "Well, I say you should go try out right now before that part gets taken!" Erin said. You could audition after school until five, so now would be as good a time as any to try out. Erin would help her, she knew all about how to do a good audition. She'd done plenty of them before. School ones were generally pretty easy with most people getting in, but you weren't guaranteed the role you wanted. Erin hated that.
"Want to go back to the school now? I can help you if you like," Erin said. She hoped KK would agree to letting her. The only downside would be that Erin would have to walk back to the school in her overly high heels that she ought not to have worn. Oh well.

KK smiled. "Of course I'd like to do that!" she enthused. Erin reminded her of the best friend she had ever had, three moves ago. All right, she would admit it to herself: KK loved Shakespeare's plays, she loved acting, and more than anything, she loved having good friends. Erin seemed to be one of the best.
